Sowing the Seeds - A LEADER inter-territorial project

Yorkshire Dales Leader Programme

YDMT and the Yorkshire Dales National Park currently run the Hay Time Project, which works to protect the remaining species-rich meadows and to restore botanical diversity to degraded meadows.

With the completion of four summer seasons the project has introduced seed to 143 hectares of meadow throughout and close to the National Park as well as providing management advice to many farmers wanting to increase the nature conservation value of their meadows. Sowing the seeds would build on the success of Hay Time.  Using the expertise and experience gained YDMT want to disseminate this knowledge to other EU regions that contain similar upland hay meadow vegetation and face the same kind of issues.  They also wish to know how these areas are tackling the restoration themselves as well as how they use their meadows to educate and as a resource for tourism.  This project would deliver twinning arrangements, training seminars, practical demonstrations, and information materials, leading to partners being better informed
