Lower Wensleydale Youth Worker

Yorkshire Dales Leader Programme

This a joint project between the Anglican and Methodist churches in Middleham and Mashamshire to support two part time Youth Workers based in the Middleham and Mashamshire areas.

They will work with local volunteers to build community youth groups, organise indoor and outdoor activities to help connect the children and young people to their peers.

The Youth Workers will also work with schools and other youth organisations to enhance the guidance, support and activities available.  They will also work alongside ‘detached’ children who don’t already participate in other activities and who might not be noticed until they need urgent help.  There are a large number of young people spread across the two sparsely populated areas who have problems accessing community gatherings.

The project will use LEADER funding to purchase laptops, printer, digital cameras, satellite navigation systems and a projector for the youth workers. LEADER is also financing administration, mileage, rent for venues and training costs. The project intends to reach and assist up to 750 children and young people over the three years, creating two part time (1 f/t equivalent) posts and assisting a minimum of 20 volunteers in their skills development.
